I truly don’t know where to begin with my breast reduction and lift with Dr. Sharline Z. Aboutanos. From the very first consultation, I felt seen, heard, and genuinely cared for. My first review was REMOVED ! I had a breast reduction with Dr. Stephen M. Chen at Richmond Plastic Surgeons about six months after having my first child due to medical concerns. I was extremely nervous about undergoing surgery, especially as a new mother. The consultation process initially went smoothly. The staff was kind and professional. When I met Dr. Chen, the interaction felt very brief and direct. While I understand efficiency, I personally would have appreciated more reassurance and bedside manner given the magnitude of the procedure and my anxiety going into it. On the day of surgery, I was very afraid. I did not see or speak with Dr. Chen prior to being placed under anesthesia. Being put to sleep without that final interaction was triggering for me and heightened my anxiety. While I recognize that surgical processes vary, that moment felt very unsettling. Post-operatively, I experienced concerns with my results. I attempted to address them but did not feel fully heard during follow-up communication. As a result, I now struggle with confidence and intimacy, which has been emotionally difficult. I am sharing this to express how important communication, reassurance, and feeling validated are during such vulnerable medical experiences. Every patient’s emotional well-being matters just as much as the technical outcome.

Dr. Aboutanos is FANTASTIC! She did my breast reduction surgery and removal of a melanoma and I will be forever grateful. Both surgeries went perfectly and I'm very happy with the results. Will continue to go back to Richmond Plastic Surgeons and in particular Dr. Aboutanos for all of my surgery needs (plastic and skin surgeries).
