South Reno Dental - Cole VanderWel DDS

South Reno Dental is great! I had my first 'new patient' appointment today: full mouth x-rays, full mouth scan and exam. Like many people, I had to find a new dentist due to Prominence's last minute switch from FCL to Liberty Dental in January 2026. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Staff was friendly and Dr. Cole VanderWel was very professional, personable and comfortable to work with. I saw my FORMER dentist Nov. 2025 for a cleaning, exam and subsequent cavity filling. Today's scan showed I have 3 cavities: 1 large one that should have been repaired a long time ago, a second not quite as big but should have been evident for months and, as for the 3rd - the former dentist who 'filled' the cavity in November didn't fill the entire cavity area he had drilled out so I have to have that one refilled correctly. (No wonder it's been so tender). If you still need to change dentists I highly recommend South Reno Dental.

Filling looks great but that was a VERY PAINFUL Lidocaine shot! Wow! Was told there was no epi but the numbing lasted 4.5 hours, yikes!!! Normally my past dentists take several minutes to slowly inject numbing medicine but Dr Van Dam did it so fast I was in so much pain! My tooth doesn’t hurt but my cheek is still very sore! The dentist and his dental assistant Yasmin as well as front office assistant are all very nice.

Just a day ago, 1/29/26 was my 1st visit at South Reno Dental. I had a hiccup with my Prominence Advantage Plan and my Dental Coverage. As did so many. To the point, I found this practice hunting on Google ! I saw many very positive reviews, and I also wad about Dr. Cole. I have a new Dental Insurance and this practice takes it. Yay. My 1st visit was several X-rays and a new thing I’ve never had, that takes a 3d imaging of my mouth. I couldn’t see it on their screen as Dr. Cole told me what he saw. Dr. Cole is Wonderful. I will back up…Jasmine did all my X-rays and she is also Wonderful. I will say with no reservations that My new Dentist Dr. Cole, is so worth the stress of loosing my prior Dentist due to the Dental Insurance mess. I am quite happy to say he will be taking good care of my issues with my implants. I got THROUGH EXAM of the area that I thought I needed some extensive surgery for. Dr. Cole gave me some reassuring opinions about this issue. It means so much to me that maybe it isn’t as dire as I was informed from a dental specialist. I have full confidence with Dr. Cole. I had sent all prior records to his Practice, so he knows what I had been told and also has that imaging. I am relieved to have Dr. Cole as my ( new ) Dental Provider. The office setting, the exam areas the staff is quite professional and comfortable. I couldn’t be happier. That said after a bit of stress the last part of ‘25 and my new implant issues, and loosing my prior dentist. 🙏🏻👍🏼 Nancy

First visit for assessment. Dr. Cole was extremely kind,friendly & carefully reviewed my X-rays with me. All staff were helpful. I appreciated his patience with me asking questions. Update: 2nd visit- giving 5 stars! DH Karen gentle, attentive & professional! Dr Cole & his asst were extremely kind & caring during my minor oral surgery(I was nervous) they helped calm me! Yadira & Yasmin professional & friendly!! 5 STARS from me!

Hands down Dr. Cole is the absolute most gentle dentist I've ever met.. And his staff is amazing! But for the amount of damage I had in my mouth and to be able to smile again is amazing. I sent my son to him as well. I hope he stays in this area forever because I don't ever want another dentist. Love him!
