Smiles by Hart

I would not recommend this practice based on several experiences that left me feeling uneasy and questioning whether patient care or profit was the priority. The dentists are very personable, which initially made it easy to trust their recommendations. The office also features impressive, high-tech equipment that gives the appearance of a cutting-edge and trustworthy practice. However, my experience did not align with that impression. At one appointment, I was told I had a cavity based on AI detection from my X-ray. This surprised me, as I’ve never had a cavity and take excellent care of my teeth. Wanting to be cautious, I sought a second opinion. The other dentist thoroughly reviewed my X-rays and confirmed that I did not have any cavities and that my teeth looked great—consistent with what I’ve always been told prior to coming here. That experience significantly undermined my confidence in this practice. Additionally, my husband, who has never needed extensive dental work in the past, was suddenly presented with a lengthy treatment plan. The pattern of these recommendations made us feel uncomfortable and concerned that unnecessary procedures may have been suggested. There was also an issue at the front desk when I was told my insurance did not cover an X-ray and that I would need to pay out of pocket. After I questioned this and pushed back, they later reversed course and acknowledged that my insurance did, in fact, cover it. That interaction added to my concerns. After multiple instances that made me feel pressured and uncertain, the AI-detected “cavity” was the final straw. I value transparency and conservative, patient-centered care, and unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

Both Dr. Hart’s and all the staff are some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. I’ve been going to Smiles by Hart for around 4 years now (and have had a LOT of work done) and they have not only taken such good care of my teeth, but really make me feel comfortable during my visits. Most recently, I went to an appointment with very severe anxiety (not dental-related, just general) and was basically having an anxiety attack when I got there, and by the end of the appointment I was feeling much more relaxed. All they did was talk to me to get my mind off things and make sure I had water and everything and it really helped me out a lot. I am so incredibly grateful to Dr. Hart, Dr. T, and the rest of the team for always making me feel so welcome and at ease during anything from a cleaning to a root canal. My only wish is that they would be open 5 days a week, and they are quite booked usually (understandably so! but I know it can be frustrating for people trying to schedule something), but otherwise, I really wouldn’t change a thing! I highly recommend going here for all your dental needs. You’ll come out feeling better in your teeth and in your mood! They feel like friends that happen to also be dentists. There are always smiles when I’m at Smiles by Hart. ❤️

I have nothing but positive things to say about this office. Clean, very professional staff and great at communicating with me on what work I needed done in regard to my dental health. The cleaning that I had was very thorough. The hygienist, Shannon, provided exceptional care. I was very happy with all the services that were provided at my appointment and can not say enough about the team that works at this office.

I started going to Smiles by Hart ~3 years ago, and although I may be leaving Pittsburgh, I might be willing to drive the distance every 6 months!The waiting room is extremely nice, coffee/water is offered. The dentists, hygienists, and front desk staff are all extremely nice, accommodating, and professional. A wonderful dentist that I would absolutely recommend!

Shannon was my hygienist and she was excellent. The whole staff is professional and explained all treatment I would be receiving in a way I would understand. Thank you!!!
