Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery - South Austin

I had a very disappointing experience with microneedling at Westlake Dermatology with Dr. Gordon. I originally scheduled an appointment hoping to see Dr. Sosa, whom I really like and have had great experiences with. However, I was told that Dr. Gordon was the only provider performing microneedling. During the procedure, the treatment was extremely painful. At one point I was actually crying because of how hard the device was being pressed into my skin. I remember her saying something along the lines of, “Go big or go home — if you’re going to do it, let’s really do it.” The pressure being applied, especially on my forehead, felt excessive. After the treatment and once my skin started healing, I noticed scratches across my forehead and other areas of my face. My understanding of microneedling is that it should create micro-channels in the skin, not scratches. In my case, it felt like the pressure was so heavy that the needles never had a chance to lift and create those channels. Instead, they appeared to be dragged across the surface of my skin, which resulted in visible scratches. Unfortunately, the healing process left me with melasma across my forehead in a grid-like pattern, which I did not have before the procedure. It has taken me a year to get some what back to normal. I contacted Westlake Dermatology to explain what happened. I was asked to come back in, but rather than offering any type of refund, I was given a prescription cream — which I had to pay for out of pocket. I’ve actually taken a long time to write this review because I continue to see Dr. Sosa for other procedures and didn’t want things to feel awkward. However, I believe it’s important to share my experience honestly so other patients are aware. I had high expectations for a well-known dermatology practice like Westlake, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I hope the clinic takes feedback like this seriously and reviews technique and patient comfort during cosmetic procedures.

Had a great experience at Westlake Dermatology on Davis Lane. I went in for some spot checks and left with total peace of mind. The office was clean, the staff was professional, and everything was handled efficiently. I really appreciated how attentive and thorough everyone was. Lauren Macha was amazing. She was very easy to talk to. She not only listened but was very thorough in checking any bumps or spots I had. Lauren is a good communicator and explained what she was looking for. I feel confident in her abilities and highly recommend her.

I had a consultation with Avery Stevens and she was fantastic - super welcoming, we talked for over an hour! She made sure I was super comfortable in my decision, was informed on pricing, different surgeon options, and was just super personable. I would absolutely recommend Avery and the Westlake Dermatology team! I've been going to them for 15 years across the Austin area, but this location has by far been the most welcoming!
